What is the purpose of this course?
The RIIRIS201D – conduct local risk control course provides workers with the required skills and knowledge to safely identify hazards, assess risks and identify unacceptable risk, identify, assess and implement risk treatments, and completion of records and reports.

Risk management is the identification, evaluation, and prioritization of risks followed by coordinated and economical application of resources to minimize, monitor, and control the probability or impact of unfortunate events.

About the course
This is a complete course for beginner and advanced workers alike. They will learn the latest regulation, skills, training and understanding to identify hazards and conduct local risk control. This is a competency based training course that will keep working with participants for additional periods of time to help participants achieve the required competency.

Licensing, Legislative, Regulatory Considerations
While there are no licencing requirements for conducting local risk control, the WHS Act and Regulations require persons who have a duty to ensure health and safety to ‘manage risks’ by eliminating health and safety risks so far as is reasonably practicable, and if it is not reasonably practicable to do so, to minimise those risks so far as is reasonably practicable.

A person conducting a business or undertaking must ensure that information, training and instruction provided to a worker is suitable and adequate having regard to:

  • the nature of the work carried out by the worker
  • the nature of the risks associated with the work at the time of the information, training and instruction, and
  • the control measures implemented.

The training provided must be readily understandable by any person to whom it is provided.
